Why Perth loves limestone
Limestone is part of the Perth landscape. It's quarried locally, and its creamy colour suits native gardens, coastal homes and the region's sandy soils. Limestone blocks make chunky, solid-looking edging that pairs well with limestone retaining walls.
The downside is that natural limestone is a soft, porous stone. Over the years it can erode, crumble at the corners, pick up mould and reticulation stains, and shift out of line as sand moves beneath it. Every joint between blocks is also a gap for couch grass and weeds to push through.

Continuous concrete kerbing is made on site in one unbroken run. It flows around curves instead of stepping block by block, has no gaps for weeds, and holds its line for years. It usually costs less per metre than laid limestone blocks, and most gardens are finished in a day.

If you love the limestone colour but not the upkeep, limestone look kerbing is a good middle ground. We colour the concrete in a warm limestone tone and give it a natural stone texture, so it sits comfortably next to real limestone walls, with the strength and seamless finish of concrete.
Our take: If you want the traditional block look and don't mind some maintenance, limestone blocks are a fine choice. For most Perth gardens, continuous concrete edging (plain, coloured or limestone look) gives a neater result, costs less and needs far less upkeep.
