What is continuous concrete kerbing?
Continuous kerbing, also called continuous concrete edging or extruded kerbing, is garden edging made on the spot. We feed a stiff concrete mix through a kerbing machine that presses it into a solid profile as it moves along your marked-out line. The machine can follow gentle sweeps, tight curves and long straights, so the edge fits your garden exactly.
Because the kerb is one continuous piece rather than a row of separate blocks, there are no loose pavers to lift, no gaps for grass to creep through, and nothing for mulch to spill over. We saw-cut control joints at regular intervals so the concrete can expand and contract in Perth's hot summers without cracking at random.
Where concrete garden edging works best
- Lawn and garden bed borders. A clean line between buffalo or kikuyu lawn and your beds.
- Around trees and feature plants. Circles and islands that turn a tree into a focal point.
- Along fences and walls. A mowing strip means less whipper-snipping.
- Paths and driveways. A neat, solid edge to contain gravel, pebbles or soft landscaping.
- Verges and front yards. Street appeal that's great for owners, landlords and anyone selling.
- Veggie patches and play areas. Keeps soil, sand and softfall where it belongs.
Plain, coloured or decorative?
Plain concrete kerbing in natural grey is the most affordable option and suits almost any garden. If you'd like the edge to tie in with your home, we can add colour oxide through the whole mix. Charcoal, limestone, sandstone and terracotta are popular in Perth.

Tip: Planning new turf or reticulation? It's usually best to kerb first. The edge becomes your guide for laying turf and running drip lines, and the finished result looks sharper.
Why choose continuous kerbing over other edging?
Compared with limestone blocks
Limestone blocks look great when new, but they have a joint every 300–400 mm, can shift in sandy soil and may crumble or stain over time. Continuous concrete kerbing is one solid piece and is usually cheaper per metre. See our full concrete vs limestone edging comparison.
Compared with steel or plastic edging
Steel edging gives a slim modern line but can rust and has sharp tops, and plastic edging tends to lift and warp in the sun. Concrete kerbing is wider, stronger and your mower can run straight over it.
Our kerbing process
- Free measure and quote. We measure the metres, talk through styles and colours and give you a written price.
- Set out. We mark the lines with you on the day and adjust curves until they look right.
- Prepare. We trim turf and level the base where needed so the kerb sits at the right height.
- Extrude and finish. We lay the kerb continuously, hand-finish it, apply any pattern and cut control joints.
- Clean up. We leave the site tidy and give you simple care instructions.
Caring for new concrete kerbing
Keep feet, pets and wheelbarrows off the kerb for 24 hours. Hold off on heavy knocks and mowing over it for about a week. After that it needs little attention beyond an occasional hose down. If you want to keep coloured kerbing looking fresh, you can re-seal it every few years.
