Concrete garden edging FAQs

Concrete garden edging, also called concrete kerbing or continuous kerbing, is a border made from concrete that separates lawn from garden beds, paths and driveways. We extrude it on site with a kerbing machine in one continuous run, so it follows your curves exactly and has no gaps between blocks for weeds to grow through.

It keeps lawn out of garden beds and mulch or pebbles off the lawn, cuts down on edging and trimming, and gives your garden a neat, finished look. Because it's one solid piece, it won't lift, rot, rust or shift like plastic, steel or block edging, and it can be coloured and patterned to suit your home.

Yes. We measure up on site, talk through styles and colours and give you a written quote with no obligation. You can also send us photos and rough lengths for an early idea.

Concrete garden edging is priced per linear metre. The cost depends on the total length, the style and colour, the profile, any site preparation and access. Plain concrete is the most affordable, and decorative finishes cost a little more. We give an exact price after a free on-site measure. Read more in our kerbing cost guide.

There's no minimum length, so we're happy to do small jobs. Because setting up the kerbing machine and mixing concrete takes the same effort for a short run as a long one, small jobs have a minimum charge, which we'll include in your quote.

Yes. Every job is shaped on site, so we can follow any layout of curves, circles and straight runs. You can also choose from several profiles, a range of colours and decorative finishes such as brick look, limestone look, natural rock and stamped patterns.

Most residential jobs are finished in a single day, often in just a few hours. Larger or commercial jobs may take longer, and we'll give you a timeframe with your quote.

Not much. Please make sure we can get to the areas being edged, move furniture, pots and toys out of the way, and let us know where reticulation lines run if you know. We'll handle the set out and base preparation.

Yes, we can remove old edging such as limestone blocks, bricks, pavers or plastic before installing new kerbing. Removal and disposal aren't included in the standard kerbing price and are quoted separately, depending on the type and amount of edging.

Yes. We shape the kerb around established plants, trees, letterboxes and paths, and keep it clear of trunks and major surface roots. See tree rings.

Yes, kerbing can follow gentle slopes. On steeper ground we may need extra base preparation or to break the run into sections, and we'll talk you through the options when we measure up.

Not necessarily. We like to confirm the layout with you before we start, either on the day or at the quote. After that, as long as we have access to the work areas, you don't need to be there.

Heavy rain can affect fresh concrete, so we watch the forecast closely. If wet weather is likely, we'll contact you and reschedule to the next suitable day.

Keep off the kerbing for 24 hours. Avoid heavy knocks, wheelbarrows and mowing over it for about a week while it gains strength. Concrete keeps curing and reaches its full strength over the following weeks.

Give the kerbing at least 24 hours before placing mulch or pebbles against it, and ideally a couple of days before artificial turf goes in, so heavy compacting and machinery don't damage the fresh edge.
